There are 2 major differences to starting this engine: 1) Glow plugs - use only in cold weather - 15 secs max 2) There is a danger of water backflow wrecking the engine if it continually turns over without firing (it should fire within 1 second), so if it doesn't light within 10 secs,release key and turn off the sea water inlet cock. Wait a few minutes then try again, opening sea cock as soon as the engine is running smoothly. Starter motor max 15 secs then allow 5 mins cooling. Start Shut Down
